Psychological testing may be covered by insurance.

Our psychological and neuropsychological assessments help identify what may be driving a client’s challenges, from attention and memory concerns to learning and emotional difficulties. For a closer look at what this process involves, see our guide to a neuropsychological evaluation in Austin, TX.

At Peak Performance Institute, we understand that getting the care you need shouldn’t be stressful—especially when it comes to billing and insurance. While many psychologists and neurotherapy providers don’t always participate directly with insurance panels, we’re here to help you navigate your options and make quality mental health care as accessible as possible.

Insurance Coverage

Peak Performance Institute is an out-of-network provider.  However, reimbursement for clients whose insurance policies include mental health or neurotherapy benefits may be available. Many major carriers may provide partial reimbursement for services such as:

  • Psychotherapy & counseling
  • Psychological assessment & testing
  • Neurotherapy / Neurofeedback sessions
  • EMDR and trauma-informed care
  • Executive functioning and learning-related evaluations

We recommend that you contact your insurance provider directly to confirm:

  • Whether your plan includes behavioral health benefits
  • Your deductible, copay, and coinsurance amounts
  • If pre-authorization is required for specific services

Your insurer can also tell you what documentation is needed for out-of-network reimbursement, including superbills, which we can provide. This helps reduce your out-of-pocket costs even when we’re not in network.

Out-of-Network Benefits & Reimbursement

Many plans will still reimburse part of your costs through out-of-network benefits. We’re happy to:

  • Provide electronic superbills for your submission

  • Work with Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for eligible services

Tip: Please contact your insurance company with these key questions and please use our Insurance Verification Form to guide you with question prompts:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • What portion of a session will be reimbursed?

  • Does my plan require pre-authorization?

  • How many sessions per year are covered?

Frequently Asked Questions About Assessments

What happens during a psychological or neuropsychological assessment?
Testing sessions are typically administered by a trained psychometrist working under the supervision of Dr. Jan Ford Mustin. Dr. Mustin reviews and scores the results, interprets the findings, and meets with you for a feedback session to discuss what the results mean.
What tests are used in an assessment?
The specific tools depend on the referral question and may include instruments such as CNS Vital Signs or the IVA-2 as part of a broader battery. These are examples of the types of tools that may be used, not a fixed or complete list for every client.
Will testing guarantee accommodations at school or work?
No. A completed assessment provides documentation of a client’s cognitive and emotional profile, but final decisions about accommodations or eligibility rest with the relevant school, employer, or testing organization.
Is assessment covered by insurance?
Peak Performance Institute is an out-of-network provider. We provide superbills that many clients use to seek partial reimbursement directly from their insurance carrier.
How is a neuropsychological assessment different from general psychological testing?
Neuropsychological assessment focuses on cognitive functions such as attention, memory, and executive functioning, while psychological assessment addresses emotional and behavioral health. The two are often combined. Learn more in our detailed guide to neuropsychological evaluation in Austin, TX.
