What is Fitness for Duty?
A Fitness-for-Duty Evaluation is a specialized psychological assessment that determines whether an employee can safely and effectively perform the essential functions of their position.
These evaluations are commonly requested when there are concerns involving:
- Behavioral changes

- Workplace safety
- Judgment and decision-making
- Ability to perform essential job duties

What to Expect
Every evaluation is tailored to the referral concerns while following established forensic and occupational psychology standards.
1. Referral Review
We begin by reviewing referral questions, job requirements, workplace concerns, and any available documentation provided by the employer.
2. Clinical Interview
The employee participates in a confidential interview covering medical history, psychological history, occupational functioning, current concerns, and factors that may impact job performance.
3. Psychological Testing
When appropriate, standardized psychological assessments are administered to evaluate emotional functioning, personality characteristics, stress tolerance, decision-making, and other factors relevant to workplace performance.
4. Records Review
Our psychologists review available medical, employment, disciplinary, treatment, and occupational records when appropriate to develop a comprehensive understanding of the referral.
5. Professional Report
The referring organization receives a detailed report addressing the referral questions with evidence-based opinions and recommendations regarding the individual’s ability to safely perform essential job duties.
